Lamiaceae. North Africa, Canary Islands. H x 1.5m L 1.5m. Z9. Perennial. Balm Of Gilead is a cousin of our mints, sage, thyme, etc. and is grown for its strongly aromatic foliage (citrus, cedar wood, oak, and camphor), which is used in infusion, incense, or as a source of essential oil rich in monoterpene ketone pinocarvone and methyl chavicol (perfumery, aromatherapy). The plant has medicinal properties: Antibacterial, Antimicrobial, and is traditionally used to treat respiratory diseases. Flowers are pale pink, gathered in terminal spikes.
