Details

Small clumpish cacti forming compact tufts, hybrids created and selected for the abundance and beauty of their multicolored spring bloom. The plants get entirely covered with flowers for several weeks in May and June, and may bloom again during summer. Flower colors are pure white, candy pink, fuschia, orange, yellow, red depending on the hybrid... Chamaelobivias are born from the cross between the genus Chamaecereus and the genus Lobivia, wild mountain cacti growing up to 4600 m in the Andes. For this reason, these hybrids tolerate frost down to -8 or -12 ° C provided that they are kept completely dry. Today, there is a very large number of Chamaelobivia hybrids, very appreciated for their spectacular flowering, their ease of care, and their resistance to cold. One of the easiest cacti to grow and make blooming, ideal for beginners. We offer a Discovery assortment of 4 different hybrids in a mix, 4 plants in flowering size.

Growing Tips: Plant your Chamaelobivias in pots that are shallow but wide enough so that they have space to form clumps. Use a cactus pot mix. Geranium pot mix is also very good for this type of cactus. Offer enough sun to your Chamaelobivias all year round, they need it to flower well: On a terrace, in a rock garden, behind a window. Keep them dry from October to March. Repot each year in March to remove the old exhausted soil from the roots, and start watering again from April, gradually increasing the frequency of watering and the amount of water. From May to September, water regularly and add liquid fertilizer to water every 15 days - Chamaelobivias like to eat and drink during their growing season. In September, reduce watering and suspend it completely during fall and winter. You can then store your Chamaelobivias in a cellar with window. However, if you keep them in a heated room and they show signs of thirst, give them sparse waterings. You can also leave your Chamaelobivias outside all year round by sheltering them from autumn / winter rains and heavy frosts. You will keep these adorable cacti for many years and enjoy their spectacular flowering.
