Lamiaceae. Europe (South). H 1.4m x 0.6m L. Z5. Biennial or ephemeral perennial. Clary Sage is grown industrially as a source of essential oil (perfumery, aromatherapy). Salvia sclarea has medicinal properties: Antispasmodics, Appetizing, Aromatic, Astringent, Balsamic, Carminative, Ophthalmic, Pectoral, and Tonics. It is also a beautiful ornamental plant, for its foliage, large, blue-gray, fluffy, forming a low rosette the first year, and from which will emerge a high branched flower stalk, most spectacular by its silver, mauve, and light green bracts, abundant and highly developed. Small and insignificant flowers, but melliferous and very attractive to pollinators (bees, bumblebees, butterflies). The plant is strongly aromatic and seems very touchy: It gives off a powerful scent as soon as one or a breeze touches or disturbs its foliage. Young Clary Sage leaves can be used for cooking, chopped in salads, in beignets, or to flavor liquors, for example. Still little known to the public, a sage to discover and to plant both in an ornamental garden and a garden of aromatic herbs.

Sow the seeds in place from August to September in full sun exposure, or in April in godets at warm temperature for planting late May. Robust plant requiring no maintenance, resisting to frost and drought. Flowering occurs on plants aged 1 year and more. Seeds, 1 packet of 0.1g
