Solanum pseudocapsicum - Jerusalem Cherry - Seeds, 1 packet
The Jerusalem Cherry tree is a reknown decorative houseplant, much appreciated for its several months white flowering, followed by bright orange fruits resembling small cherries scattered over deep green foliage in a most remarkable contrast.
The fruits appear in summer and persist until next spring. They are inedible, their ingestion causing gastrointestinal and metabolic disorders.
Solanum pseudocapsicum is easy to grow. It likes partial shade but can handle full sun. On a balcony or in the garden, it will survive mild frosts and usually, will grow back from its stump next spring.
Sow 3 seeds per godet in early May, then repot in June, in a good loam for houseplants, if you want to make decorative pots for indoor or balcony.
You can also plant your Jerusalem Cherry trees in your garden in June, in shaded or partly shaded areas, in loamy and fresh soil.
The first flowers may bloom in the year of sowing, but the plant becomes really decorative on its second year.
Repot house Solanum pseudocapsicum each year in spring, and bring them fertilizer for indoor plants from spring to fall. Water copiously during the growing season, very lightly the rest of the year.
Cut the less vigorous branches on elderly plants.
With these few guidelines, you will enjoy a vigorous Jerusalem Cherry for many years.
