Details

Foxglove is an ornamental and medicinal plant.

Its sumptuous bloom, carried by tall, erect stems bearing an uninterrupted succession of long bell-shaped flowers - white, pink, purple, beautifully spotted - lasts about 1 month in early summer.

It is very attractive to foraging insects.

During the rest of the year, the plant is an evergreen with low, rosette-shaped, vegetation, which prevents the development of weeds.

Recommended for embankments to reduce their maintenance, Digitalis purpurea will sow itself and remain there for years.

All parts of the plant contain alkaloids known for their very powerful Cardiotonic, Diuretic, Stimulant and Tonic effects.

However, it is strongly recommended not to use Digitalis purpurea in self-medication: Its ingestion can be fatal.

A dangerousness largely offset by the majestic beauty of the flowering.

The flowers can be used to produce a natural apple green dye on wools and silks.
