Solanaceae. South America (Peru). H 1.5 m x 1.2m L. Z9. Perennial, grown as an annual in temperate regions. The fruit of Physalis peruviana is one of the best produced by the genus, and usually the only one marketed as a tasty fruit. Very fragrant, tangy and rich in vitamins A, B, and C, proteins, and phosphorus, Inca Berry can be used raw, in desserts, for plates decoration, or be dried for consumption in winter. It has diuretics properties, the leaves of Physalis peruviana who being Anthelmintic. Perennial in warmer regions, Inca Berry is usually grown as an annual in Europe. It requires a long growing season, blooms late in summer, and ripens its fruits in autumn. Very high yield.

Warning: as with other physalis, calyx is toxic and should not be consumed.

Sow early, mid-April in godets, and keep warm until germination (15 days). Plant in place in late May when the risk of frost is over. Full sun exposure, fresh and deep soil. In fertile soils, the plant has a luxuriant vegetation at the expense of fruit production. A small, original and delicious fruit, easy to grow, that one must try. 1 packet of 0.05g (approx. 50 seeds).
