Solanaceae. North America. H 0.5m x L 0.6m. Z7. Annual. A cousin species of Physalis peruviana, with fruits less tart and much earlier in summer. Physalis pubescens forms a low clump, branched and spread. Its sweet berries have a delicate taste reminiscent of mandarin. Very abundant yield from mid-summer to first frosts. The fruits are harvested when they fall to the ground, and eaten when they become yellow-orange. Ground Cherry can be enjoyed as a dessert, dried for winter, or transformed into delicious jams. All parts of the plant have medicinal properties: Antipyretics, Purifying, Diuretics, Pectoral and Anthelmintic. Rarely in nursery catalogs, here is an opportunity to try this very easy and useful plant. Variety Goldie is sweeter and more aromatic.

ATTENTION: as with other physalis, the calyx is toxic and should not be consumed - only the berry inside.

Sow in place in May after the last risk of frost in warmed soil exposed full sun. Without maintenance. Harvest the fruits starting from July or August when they fall to the ground. 1 packet of 0.1g (approx. 100 seeds).
