Detail

Chlorophytum comosum forms a dense rosette of very elegant arched variegated leaves, from which emerge thin, straw-yellow stems supporting small, fairly discreet white flowers

These flower stalks quickly evolve into stolons, at the ends of which new small tufts of leaves are formed, which give an adult pot a remarkable aesthetic

Cultivation

Chlorophytum comosum is a magnificent, easy and low maintenance indoor plant, used as a hanging plant (let it produce stolons which will hang under the pot) or to form large clumps of decorative foliage (remove the stolons when they appear )

Easy to maintain, it survives lack of water thanks to its fleshy roots, and in winter, it tolerates temperatures as low as 5°C (dry or barely damp soil) and can therefore be wintered in a cellar behind a window

The Spider Plant grows best in light, rich soil, but will adapt to different growing media

Root the cuttings you receive in a glass of water

When roots appear (2 weeks), plant your cuttings in potting soil for houseplants, in a pot about 10cm in diameter

Water copiously and keep the soil constantly moist

Expose the Chlorophytum to strong, yet subdued light: near a window where it will receive a few rays of morning sun (to be protected from strong sun), or in a very bright room so that it will be more beautiful and more vigorous

In summer, it will do well outside, sheltered from direct sun, in a shady but bright place

Water regularly from spring to autumn, and in winter if the room is heated (when the Chlorophytum is thirsty, its leaves discolor)

Keep the soil barely moist if the temperature is below 17°C (otherwise the fleshy roots will rot)

Repot every year in the same pot (adult plants), at the beginning of spring, to replace the old potting soil

From May until mid-August, fertilize every 15 days for even more beautiful vegetation
