Detail

Euphorbia epithymoides is a low, ground-covering, smothering seasonal bush that disappears in winter in cold climates

The bluish-green leaves are oblong, with rounded tops, borne on branched stems of around thirty cm long

They form a compact cushion-like vegetation, very pleasing to the eye and always clean

Flowering takes place early, from April, and lasts throughout May

Each stem produces at its end, an inflorescence about ten cm in diameter, brightly colored, chartreuse to bright yellow

It is a resplendent spectacle which brings a ray of sunshine to the still resurgent garden

The flower is insignificant, but very appreciated by bees and foraging insects

Cultivation

Find a sunny location for the Golden Spurge, which can be shaded during the hot hours for protection from the heat of the summer sun, and which be in a clear view to appreciate the flowering show

Associated with the blue vegetation of Festuca glauca, the contrast is remarkable

In favorable conditions, the Golden Spurge takes up some space and you should therefore plan not to put it too close to other plants

A rockery, a border, are perfect

Plant in any type of clean, well-loosened soil, water regularly to keep the soil moist until recovery, which is rapid and without difficulties

Euphorbia epithymoides is a robust plant that requires no particular care once established, apart from watering in arid soil and during periods of prolonged drought

In winter, prune the stems to simplify the network of branches (will give more beautiful inflorescences), cut back the longest ones to give shape, and remove the dead parts

No pests, no diseases
