This wild cousin to sorrel is used in a similar manner and with the same precautions (high content in oxalic acid). Excellent raw minced and mixed with a salad, or as a thickener in soups, it gives a lemon-like flavor. People with a tendency to rheumatism, arthritis, gout, kidney stones or hyperacidity should be cautious when using it though.

Rumex acetosella is an interesting source of Dye, giving yellows, greens and browns depending on pH and mordant.

Sheeps Sorrel has Astringent and Diuretics medicinal properties, and is a detoxifying, slightly laxative plant, useful in the treatment of kidney and intestinal problems. It is an ingredient in the anti-cancer herbal treatment "Essaic". As this plant is being sought after but rarely available in catalogs, we suggest you to take the chance.

Plant very easy, maintenance-free, for acidic and poor soils, sunny spots, but please note: the plant establishes a surface suckering network and becomes invasive very quickly.
