Details
Leaves, flowers, and bulbs (small) are edible, Chives being grown mainly as a condiment for its leaves tasting like onion (used raw in salads, cheeses, omelettes, etc.)
Allium schoenoprasum has some medicinal properties: Appetizer, Digestive, Hypotensive and Tonic
Its juice is insect repellent and antifungal
It can be used in the garden as natural treatment
Any vegetable garden should have its tuft of Chives: easy, tasty and decorative with its abundant pink-purple flowering

Cultivation
Sow early, in February-March on a clean soil in your vegetable garden, full sun exposure
Keep clean by regular weeding
In April or May when the plantlets are developed enough, transplant them to their final place, full sun exposure grouping them by 15 or 20 to form small clumps
Harvest as and when required, starting from June by cutting the leaves with scissors 5cm above the ground
Leaves regenerate fast
Grows back from its base each year starting from February
In winter, clean and weed
In summer, cut all vegetation 3cm above the ground to stimulate new growth of fresh edible leaves
Maintenance free, resist to severe frosts and droughts
