Detail
Eryngium planum is a magnificent Blue Thistle with spectacular flowering, colored purplish-blue with a slightly metallic glow
This Blue Thistle has a more or less branched and pivoting fleshy root, from which emerges a rosette of glabrous, fleshy, tender green leaves, without thorns, wide, flat, spreading as a rosette
In May-June, erect thorny inflorescences grow, ramify, and quickly take on their blue color
The flowers of Blue Eryngo are gathered in fragrant flower heads and bloom all summer long
They are small, insignificant, but contribute by their number to the geometric beauty of the thistle
In addition, they are very attractive to foraging insects
It is the bracts and stems of the inflorescences which have prolonged ornamental interest, since their coloring lasts after flowering until autumn, or if harvested for dry bouquet
Eryngium planum has diuretic properties and has been used against whooping cough

Cultivation
Blue Eryngo grows well in dry soils and at altitudes between 500 and 1500 m
Easy to grow, it is used in cultivated beds for its remarkable and unique durable color, or in difficult embankments where it will naturalize
Sow the seeds in pots in early spring in the nursery, covering them lightly with potting soil
Keep the substrate moist
When the roots have developed well, during May, transplant in place
Choose a location in full sun, where the Blue Thistle will flower well and be more colorful
Cut the inflorescences in autumn to clean the plant
Without further maintenance
