Detail
The Butternut is a sister of the Musquée de Provence Squash
It was obtained by agricultural selection in the 20th century
The development of this runner squash is, however, less than that of the Musquée de Provence
(plant size, leaf size, fruit size)
Growing Butternut therefore requires less space and will be better suited to a small vegetable garden
Decorative marbled foliage, elongated peanut-shaped fruit, with sand-colored skin and an orange, tighter and less juicy flesh than that of Musquée de Provence, and much smaller seeds
The Aromas are less musky, more intense, and reminiscent of Fresh Hazelnut
Butternut Squash makes sweet and deliciously creamy soups

Cultivation
Sow in April in the nursery in pots, in seeding soil, 1 seed per pot, buried 1cm deep
Keep the substrate moist and expose to the sun
In warm temperature, germination occurs in just a few days
Plant in open ground in clean, well-worked soil, generously amended with manure compost, 2 plants per m2
Full sun exposure
Water during periods of drought and weed if necessary
Easy to grow, a vigorous and productive plant that does not require as much heat as Musquée de Provence
Harvest the fruits when ripe, when the foliage disappears, in September or October and before the first frosts
Disease-free, pest-free

Good to Know
Butternut will be better stored in a heated room than in a cool cellar
