An edible oil is extracted from its seeds.
And the young leaves of Cucumis sativus can be used cooked as a leaf vegetable.
Cucumis sativus has many varieties with different characteristics.
The variety "Bushy" is very precocious, compact, highly productive, and particularly recommended in cool climates with short summers. It will produce very fast and as soon as the month of June, and may finish its season by late July if nights start to get cold.
Each plant produces an abundance of juicy cucumbers, 15 to 20 cm long, wider but shorter than commercial varieties, with excellent flavor and no bitterness when harvested before they are fully riped.
The variety Bushy has the advantage of being among the easiest to grow and fructify.
This is the only cucumber we kept in cultivation after testing several varieties because it yields abundantly on a small acreage, never catches diseases, and does not require any care, treatment, tying, etc.
Sow warm in godets in April for transplanting in your garden in May, after the last risk of frost.
Full sun exposure, soil amended with manure for an even more abundant production, and watering in case of prolonged drought / signs of thirst of the plant.
