Details
Mirabilis jalapa ("mirabilis" = latin "admirable") is a very beautiful ornamental plant, grown for its uninterrupted summer flowering until the first cold
Its flowers are pink, yellow, or white, and often these 3 colors are found on the same plant or mixed in the same flower
Marvel of Peru blooms at the end of the afternoon (hence one of its common names : Four O'Clock) and during the night
Its flowers wither with the first morning heat, replaced by a profusion of new flowers a few hours later
They exhale a suave, light, and very pleasant scent, which attracts foraging insects and in particular bumble bees and night moths: Plant Marvel of Peru near a terrace or under the windows of a bedroom to enjoy its pleasant scent during summer evenings
Mirabilis jalapa is a relatively tall plant, and will allow you to create masses of flowers and foliage in flower beds, along walls, or any space you want to fill without too much work or maintenance
Marvel of Peru finds some additional uses as a food coloring (from pink flowers)
It is a medicinal plant with the following properties: Diuretic, Purgative, and Vulneraria
The juice of its root helps treat diarrhea
Its root is an Aphrodisiac, Diuretic, and Purgative
The juice of its leaf helps to heal wounds

Grow Mirabilis jalapa like a Dahlia, in a loosened soil with medium fertility, in full sun or partial shade
In the coldest regions, dig up its tuber and keep it in the cellar during winter
The tuber can be left in the ground in warmer regions - it will grow back every year around April or May
Sow in a container, in a warm place, in March-April and plant in the ground at the end of May, or sow directly in the ground after the last frost
The first flowering occurs on the year of sowing
