Tagetes erecta - Mexican Marigold - Seeds, 1 packet
Mexican Marigold is grown as an ornamental garden plant, highly regarded for its remarkable bloming with large flowers in more or less tight pompoms, in shades of lemon yellow, bright yellow, and orange.
The flowers are carried prominently above a nice green foliage without interruption from July to the first frosts.
They are melliferous and very attractive to foraging insects.
Leaves and flowers are aromatic.
The species proposed here is a tall plant to furnish the interior or the back of flower beds (please do not confuse it with the dwarf Mexican Marygold : if you are looking for this type of plant , we recommend that you try our beautiful variety of French Marygold).
Mix Tagetes erecta with tall Zinnias : the first flowering in yellow and orange colors, the second in pink and red colors, will enrich the color range (both plants have the same cultural requirements).
Tagetes erecta has medicinal properties : Analgesic, Anthelmintic, Bactericide, Laxative, Nematocide, Sedative, and Vermifuge.
Its flowers can be used as a source of dye (see explanation for Tagetes patula / French Marigold).
Sow in pots in April-May protected from frost and plant in place at the end of May.
Any type of soil with medium fertility, full sun exposure.
Protect young plants from slugs and snails.
Easy plant, fast germination, fast growth, and maintenance free - except watering and fertilizing if grown in pots.
